SEC Recoups Additional $125 Million in Settlement of Bribery Charges and Related Accounting Violations

Defendant Snamprogetti was one of four alleged participants in a joint venture that paid more than $180 million over ten years to two agents who funnelled the money to Nigerian officials as bribes to secure more than $6 billion in construction contracts. Defendant ENI was Snamprogetti’s parent, charged for its apparent failure to detect the bribery and false books and records as a result of the scheme. Snamprogetti was also criminally charged, and settled those proceedings for an additional fine of $240 million.
