Former CEO and Vice Chairman of Ferris, Baker Watts Barred and Fined for Failure to Supervise in Special Case

In the Matter of Louis Akers, Respondent

  • 2009
  • $100,160

Respondent was the highest level supervisor for a registered representative who, with others, conducted a scheme to manipulate the market for the stock of Innotrac Corp. (among other infractions). Despite the broker’s bad reputation, respondent enabled him with a special arrangement where he had broader powers and less scrutiny than others in the same position. The SEC found that respondent failed to reasonably supervise him.

Named one of the top whistleblower practices/attorneys in the country by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, and The New Yorker
