Individuals submitting whistleblower tips to the SEC often also send them directly to the Justice Department. The SEC can also refer a case stemming from a tip to the Justice Department and pass on the actual tip if the whistleblower consents, said Jordan Thomas, partner and chair of the whistleblower representation practice at [prior firm], who also spoke on the panel.
